My top tip to infuse summer joy into the school year!

How’s your summer going?

Are you at the pool?  Out on hikes?  Reading more books than you read the entire school year?!?

I know that summer, like life, isn’t one dimensional and with the fun might also be complexities such as family dynamics, fatigue entertaining children, and other life-y things.

But if we allow ourselves a few moments to focus on the fun, it will give you some great insights into how to make this next school year feel good to you.

Yes, for the people in the back - SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CAN FEEL GOOD!

Consider your summer, the parts of it you love, the parts of yourself you love in summer, then ask yourself, “What are my core values in summer?”  Another way to think about it is to ask yourself this, “What do I love in summer”

What we love reveals our core values.

What you’ll notice is that what comes up for you is likely more dynamic and real than your traditional core-values-at-work.

Maybe it’s time in nature, time in literature, time in the sun, time with nothing on the calendar.

Maybe it’s time with friends, time spent moving your body, time to meditate.

Whatever it is, you need to add that thing, those values, to your back-to-school plan.

You need to break free from the mindset that your life is only pleasurable a few months out of the year.

You need to get creative about bringing the things you love, those deeply held values, into the full year.

And the thing about core values, they require us to get into commitment around them.

If we value joy or rest or time eating with family or long solo hikes, it’s our sacred responsibility to be in aligned action.  That’s commitment.

My friends, I hope all the things you love are abundant in your summertime world.  May they give you insight and clarity into how to bring peace and joy into the back-to-school season.
