Have you seen on your socials the term, “May-cember”?
It defines May as “like December but without the fun and gifts.” 😂
I actually think May brings plenty of fun but it certainly brings a busy energy with it - not unlike the holiday season.
Graduations
Mothers Day
Weddings
A million birthdays (just my fam?)
End of school celebration
Memorial Day
And more . . .
Talking to a school leader the other day, they reflected on the temptation to ride the good vibes and coast. They made the motion of dusting their two hands together.
I get it.
You’ve worked hard all school year.
You’ve kept your foot on the gas.
And now, you’re busy and tired and the end is in sight.
Here’s my thought for May-cember . . .
Before you leave for summer and take some time to rest and play…
Set yourself up for a great return to school.
Here are three simple tips to guide you from today to the finish line:
Download your insights from this year.
There are things you know now, things you see and understand that are worth remembering. I used to think I could never possibly forget everything I learned and wanted to remember for next year, only to find myself scratching my head in August. Capture your hard won wisdom now.
Use your energy for what matters.
Spend the time and invest the will to get the end of year evaluations honest and accurate so that they provide you with a meaningful starting place in the fall. I’ve definitely fallen for the trap of a “feel good end of year conversation” only to be kicking myself in the fall. Just like for kids, adult learning and growth is from spring to spring.
Create slowness.
Frenetic energy and constant motion take a toll. Maybe you’re having trouble sleeping or leaving the stress of the day at work. Creating deliberate moments of slowness give our nervous systems time to reset. Head to my IG for a super short video showing you the anti-anxiety tool my clients love the most.
Cheering you on in the final weeks of the school year,
Maggie
